Upland Host Lions Bulletin - December, 2011

Club Meetings - December, 2011
December 1st - Today was our monthly Board meeting. Details of this meeting may be found on the Club's blog at: http://uplandhostlions.blogspot.com/.

December 15th - President Michael reported on the Cucamonga Health Fair which was held on Saturday December 3. He said they gave 68 hearing tests and 748 eye exams. The Upland Christmas Parade was also held on December 3, with Lion Ken M. as the Parade co-chairman. This years Parade was well attended and probably the best organized in years.

President Michael reported on our annual Christmas party which was held at Maniac Mike's Restaurant. The party was well attended and everyone had a good time. The Club made $233.00 for our Administrative Fund.

The Club has received raffle tickets from Terrisita Pines Scout Camp and from the LCI Youth Exchange Foundation, for their fund raisers. Each of them sent tickets to be sold for $5.00 each.

Lion Charlotte was our program chairperson for the day and she introduced Mr. Anthony J. Portantino, State Assemblyman, as our speaker. Mr. Portantino, a Democrat basically took his party to task for the way the State Budget was handled this year. The Assembly was not given the Budget for review prior to being asked to vote on it. The second go around was the same, no review and they were forced to vote on it. He said the Democrats had "cooked the books". He briefly described how the budget was split between the majority and minority parties. He also told us how his party (the Democrats) had shunned him and cut his staff's budget after he refused to go along with them on the State Budget. He talked further about an umbilical cord registry, transparency in government and whistle blower legislation (which the legislators wanted to exempt themselves from). Mr. Portantino explained to us, in some detail, the redistricting and its effect on Upland and the surrounding area.
