Upland Host Lions Board Meeting - January 5, 2012

Board Members in Attendance: Lions Arlene, Joe, Sang, Keith, Madeleine, Ken, Jim P., Michael, Tina, and Rosemary.

Other Club Members in Attendance: Lions Beverly, Ken B., Ray, Charlotte, Lois, Hal and Brad.

Secretary's Report: The December, 2011 Board Meeting Minutes were provided to all members, for their review, on the Clubs blog. A motion was made, seconded and approved, by all Club Members to accept the December, 2011 Board meeting Minutes as presented.

Treasurer's Report: Treasurer, Lion Ken M., presented the current financial status for the Clubs information. Our current financial status is:
Admin. Fund:   Dec. 1, 2011 - $   274.94       Jan. 5, 2012 - $   425.03
Activity Fund:  Dec.1, 2011 - $6,238.52        Jan. 5, 2012 - $5,745.84
For those may have forgotten, our dues are due.

Old Business: The Club received a thank you form Lion Glenn for the Thanksgiving Baskets that were donated through his Church. The Club provide 12 Thanksgiving Dinners for needy Upland families, which were distributed through Lion Glenn's Church. We should be thanking Lion Glenn for making this distribution for us.

President Michael reminded us that there will be a District Cabinet meeting on Saturday January 21st to be held in Huntington Beach. Five members indicated they plan to attend.

The MD-4 convention is scheduled for February 3rd to the 5th and will be held in Ontario.

President Michael said the deadline for the Student Speaker Contest is February 21st. We need to get our speakers lined up before that time. It was agreed that we will have the Speaker Contest and the Upland Host Lion's contest will be held February 13th at 6:00PM at Cable Airport.

The Cable Air Show is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, January 7th & 8th and Upland Host Lions will again, man the Maniac Mike's/ Lions hamburger stand. We will man the hamburger stand from 12Noon to 5:00PM each day.

New Business: Lions Ken B. and Beverly worked at the Chino Valley Club's Christmas tree sales lot and that Club donated $225 of their earnings to us through Ken and Beverly. THANK YOU KEN AND BEVERLY.

Lions Lois and Jim P. informed us that Lion Al (Big Al) Luethold is very ill. His exact current status is unknown but we will follow up and keep people up to date on his health. Please keep Al in your prayers.

It was agreed that as many members as possible would go to visit Lion Archie on Thursday, January 12th. Eleven members attended this meeting with Archie and President Michael presented him with a Certificate of Appreciation honoring his 55 years of membership in our Club. President Michael also awarded Archie Lifetine Membership in Lions, from the Club.

Lion Ken gave us an update on this years Lemon Festival. We have been asked to man the lemon store and it will be located right next to the downtown band stand. Everyone is in favor of participating in the Lemon Festival.

As an Administrative Fund Raiser the Club has discussed many items and it was agreed the first will be a Bunco Night to be held at Cable Airport. This Bunco Night is scheduled for Wednesday February 13th at 6:30PM at Cable Airport (Maniac Mike's). It will include a pot luck dinner. Cost 20.00 per person.

Requests for Donations: This is not a request for a monetary donation but a vote donation. Lion Amanda Behnke works for the San Gabriel Childrens Center and they are in the running to receive $10,000 from IKEA. It (the Children's Center) is, evidently, one of several organizations being considered for this donation and the public is being asked to vote about who should get it. Lion Amanda has asked that we all vote for the Children's Center.
