Club Meetings - January, 2012
January 5, 2012: This was our monthly Board Meeting. Details of that meeting may be found on the Club's blog at: http://uplandhostlions.blogspot.com
January 12th - Today was a special Meeting at Lion Archie's residence. 11 members were in attendance and Lion Archie was presented a Certificate commemorating his 56 year as a member of Upland Host Lions. The Club, also, informed Lion Archie that he has had his category of membership changed from "Regular Member" to "Life Time Member". Lion Archie has spent many years of service to Lions and his community, Upland. Those years of service have benefited all of us and the community he calls home. Lion Archie deserves all the recognition we can give him for this lifetime of service. One of the things we all remember is Archie's "Ole" stories. From time to time Archie will provide one of these stories for the monthly Bulletin.

January 19, 2012: During this meeting President Michael discussed member attendance. The LCI membership lists 31 members in our Club. Not counting our Honorary Members, we have at least five members who never attend our meetings. President Michael will contact these members and determine if they should be dropped from Club Membership. A letter will be sent to each of these individuals to determine their intentions regarding the Club.
It was announced that our Club's Student Speaker Contest will be held on February 13, at 6:00PM, at Cable Airport. Since our meeting, it has been confirmed that we will have 3 student speakers this year and last years winner is back among them.
Today our program Chair person was Lion Madeleine and she had arranged for Ms. Sarah Keeney to speak to us about a pilgrimage she recently participated in.. Ms. Keeney participated in the Pilgrims of Saint James walk on the Camino de Santiago, in Spain. This walk is 500 miles in length and took them 37 days. The "Pilgrims" walked 13-18 miles per day and stayed overnight at hostiles that provided shelter and food along the way, exclusively, for Pilgrims on the Saint James walk. This walk is not just on flat ground . Ms. Keeney stated that the first day started at 400 feet above sea level and 15 miles later ended at 4,700 feet above sea level. She shared many beautiful pictures of the countryside and local terrain with us and told us of her experiences in the hostels, which were very good. The Pilgrims of Saint James walk was started in 1901 by a pastor and has had many, many participants since that time.

We received a request from Lion Sang's church to participate in their blanket drive. Every year they collect funds for Blankets+, Church World Services. $25 can provide five warm blankets for a family left homeless by an earthquake or other disaster. $100 can enable three women to receive a micro-credit loan, a sound investment in their family's future. A motion was made, seconded and approved to donate $100 to this worthy cause.
Seven members indicated that they would attend the Cabinet Meeting on January 21st.
A visitation to the Harbor Mesa Club was discussed and a date will be decided in the very near future.
